The Dragon and the Phoenix

 “This is the story of Dragon Mountain, Phoenix Mountain, and shining lake.” (p. 2).

In China, thousand of years ago, There were dragon that lived beside magic river and phoenix that lived deep inside the dark forest on other side of the river. One  day,  they found a shiny pebble, and they handled so carefully. For example, the dragon washed it in magic river, and the phoenix polished it with a feather. Then the pebble became a pearl. The pearl really shone. That night, the pearl was stolen by the Queen's guard of Heaven becasue the Queen said " I want that pearl.". Next morning, there were not the pearl, so they were looking at it, but couldn't find it. Then they saw it shining inthe sky.....

This story concern that pebble. I didn't know this story, so I searched for it. Then I can know it's a folktale in China, and this place is on west river, Hangzhou. I want to go there and look that. If this story is real, the Queen of Heaven is little greedy.

This story was retold by Lesley Sims. This version is Usborne Frst Rading series. It's Level 2 book, so it's short(less than 40). In this book, it has a few questions. It's very interesting for first reading.
